(ATR) The only American currently leading an international federation faces a challenge for a second term.
Dave Haggerty, president of the International Tennis Federation, first elected in 2015, has drawn three opponents for his seat.
Haggerty has led a shakeup of the format and timing of the Davis Cup and Federations Cup. The moves are meant to increase revenue that will be pumped back to national associations for development. His manifesto is online.
Haggerty’s principal rival is considered to be Dave Miley. He spent 25 years at the ITF as director of development, heading the biggest department at the federation. He is Irish. His manifesto is available online.
Ivo Kaderka from Czech Republic has distributed a manifesto but says he will not ask delegates for their votes in the election.
Anil Khanna, ITF vice president, has also run a low key campaign.
The election will be decided in a secret ballot among delegates from the 148 national associations. Important tennis nations like the U.S. will cast seven votes, another 90 national associations cast a single ballot.
The election will also determine seats on the ITF board. In Europe nearly two dozen candidates have filed for the six seats from the continent.
The presidential vote is set for the morning in Lisbon with the board elections in the afternoon. The voting is supposed to be streamed live from the ITF congress.
