2024 Olympic Race Heats up in Denmark -- Monday Memo

(ATR) Los Angeles and Paris will try to garner the favor of International Federations at the annual SportAccord Convention as the 2024 host city selection draws near.

The two cities are set to deliver a 10-minute presentation during the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations general assembly on April 4 detailing why their Olympic bid is best suited to host the 2024 edition of the Games.

Los Angeles and Paris bid leaders will also hold meetings with numerous stakeholders throughout the Olympic Movement on the sidelines of the SportAccord Convention in Aarhus, Denmark.

The SportAccord opening ceremony will take place at the Musikhuset, the largest concert hall in Scandinavia. Danish Broadcasting Corporation TV presenter Ulla Essendrop will serve as master of ceremonies.

Guests will hear speeches from SportAccord president Francesco Ricci Bitti, IOC president Thomas Bach as well as Aarhus mayor Jacob Bundsgaard during the ceremony.

More than 1,000 organizations and 92 international sports federations are expected to attend the six-day convention.

Around the Rings will be in Aarhus for the SportAccord conference, celebrating 25 years of Olympic reporting.

An #ATR25 champagne reception will take place at theAround the Rings' boothat 4:00 pm on April 6. The City of Paris will help ATR celebrate 25 great years with an eye to the next 25 years.

Sport Accord 2017 will conclude on April 7.

PyeongChang Hosts Ice Hockey Test Events

The IIHF Women’s Ice Hockey World Championship Division Two Group A and U18 World Championship Division Two Group A tournaments are now underway in PyeongChang, South Korea.

The two tournaments are the first test events in April for organizers of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics set to begin next February.

The U18 championships are being held at the Gangneung Hockey Centre while the women’s championships are at the Kwandong Hockey Centre.

Both of the tournaments began on April 2 and conclude on April 8.

Men's Curling Championship Underway

The Ford World Men’s Curling Championship 2017 returns to Edmonton for the second time in its history and first time in 10 years.

The championship features 12 teams that will compete not only for the title of world champion but also the final PyeongChang 2018 Olympic qualification points available in the sport. Competition began April 1.

Hosts Canada will square off against China, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Scotland, Sweden, Switzerland and the U.S. Canada is seeking to defend its world championship from 2016 on its home soil.

The competition ends on April 9.

Gold Coast 2018 Celebrates One Year Milestone

Organizers of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games will commemorate the one year milestone to the next edition of the event on Tuesday, April 4.

Locals will be able to participate in a breakfast with organizers, take photos with top athletes and attend a free event headlined by Australian stars Sheppard, Sunset City and GC2018 mascot Borobi.

Around the Rings will be on the scene in the Gold Coast for the one year celebration. Events will be held across Australia in the Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to mark k the milestone.
