Four soldiers were killed during attacks on the security forces in Antioquia and Norte de Santander

The Gulf Clan and the Eln guerrillas would be responsible for the harassment in which the military died

On Wednesday, it became known that four Army soldiers were killed in attacks by illegal armed groups that commit crimes in the east and west of the country, according to the military themselves.

One of the victims was professional soldier Fabio Nelson Sarmiento, who was attacked by a sniper, apparently from the Eln guerrilla, while he was in a rural operation in the municipality of Teorama (Norte de Santander).

In a statement from the institution, it was reported that the incident occurred exactly in the village of El Juncal, and that two more soldiers were injured along with Sarmiento who are treated in a hospital in the department.

“First aid was immediately provided by the first responders; however, professional soldier Fabio Nelson Sarmiento, with 18 years of service in the institution, died on the spot. The injured uniformed personnel will be evacuated to a health center, to be treated by specialized medical personnel,” reported from the Command of the Rapid Deployment Force No. 3.

Through the official Twitter account of the Second Army Division they expressed their condolences for the deceased soldier.

“Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of our soldier killed by the Eln in Norte de Santander, we raise prayers for his eternal rest,” they trinated.

Meanwhile, in Antioquia, in the west of the country, three more soldiers were reported killed in the midst of fighting the dissidents of the FARC and the Gulf clan.

In the newspaper El Colombiano, they reported that one of the deceased soldiers was in an operation in a rural area of the municipality of Ituango, in the north of the department, where alias Guineo, criminal chief of one of the FARC dissidents, was also killed, along with another subversive. In addition, another criminal leader of the armed group and a minor who had been forcibly recruited were captured.

The Army's Seventh Division indicated that the dead soldier was identified as Edison López Sierra. The army commander, General Eduardo Zapateiro, gave his condolences to the military's family through his Twitter account.

“Condolences to the family of professional soldier Edison López Sierra, killed by the Gao-r E-18,” said the senior officer.

While two other soldiers died when they were attacked, apparently, by members of the Gulf Clan, as they gathered in El Colombiano from information provided to them by the authorities.

“In some very regrettable events in the village of Badillo, municipality of Ituango, a unit of the Fourth Brigade that was securing the right to vote was attacked by bandits of the Gulf Clan, and unfortunately two of our soldiers were killed,” said General Juvenal Díaz Mateus, commander of the Seventh Division of the Army.

The dead soldiers were identified as Diego Velásquez Cardona and Adrián Quiceno Quiceno. General Zapateiro also offered condolences on their deaths.

“We raise prayers to the Almighty for the eternal rest of our heroes forever. Peace in their graves”, he concluded.
