22 Sep 2021. The Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 released a series of official and promotional posters at the opening ceremony of the 2021 Beijing Design Week. Three sets of official Beijing 2022 posters feature the Games’ emblem and mascots, while 11 promotional posters were selected from among thousands of entries received for a design competition.

The Beijing 2022 posters feature various elements of winter sports as well as Chinese culture, and highlight the Beijing 2022 motto “Together for a Shared Future”.

For the promotional posters, the Beijing 2022 Organising Committee had launched a public call for submissions during the Beijing International Design Week last year. More than 1,500 entries were received from hundreds of design institutions, professionals, design school teachers and students.

The final 11 promotional posters depict various elements of the Olympic Winter Games, Chinese culture, winter sports in society and Beijing cityscapes.

One of the promotional posters, entitled “Passion Connects the World”, designed by a student of the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts, takes the traditional Chinese knot as the main design element, combined with the Olympic rings and snowflakes.

Another entry, from the Beijing Institute of Fashion, is entitled “This Year in Beijing” and draws inspiration from the Beijing Temple of Heaven. It uses the silhouette of the temple as a representation of snow-covered slopes and features a skier in action.

Other posters depict residents of the host city enjoying snow and ice sports together, and some showcase the mascots Bing Dwen Dwen and Shuey Rhon Rhon. Giant panda Bing Dwen Dwen is the official mascot of the 2022 Winter Olympics, and glowing lantern Shuey Rhon Rhon is the official mascot of the 2022 Winter Paralympics.

In its announcement, the Beijing 2022 Organising Committee noted: “By integrating Chinese culture and the Olympic spirit, and presenting Olympic events and fitness-for-all programmes, the 11 promotional posters represent the vigour of the younger generations and their enthusiasm in winter sports.”
