Torch Relay Update -- The Flame Tours Ryazan

(ATR) The Sochi Olympic torch relay continues Tuesday in Ryazan.

The city islocated on the Oka River and is approximately 196 kilometers southeast of Moscow.

Elite Russian chess player Dmitry Andreikin is among the list of torchbearers carrying the flame through the city. Ryazan is around 224 square kilometers.Russia's first Nobel Prize-winner, physiologist Ivan Pavlov,was born in Ryazan.

The torch relay passed through the cities of Yasnaya Polyana and Novomoskovskin the Tula region on Monday.

On Wednesday, the flame will head east and arrive in Murom;a harbor on the Oka river andone of the oldest cities in Russia.Day 10 of the torch relay will also include the city of Vladimir.

Sochi 2014 announced today that the Olympic flame will travel to the North Pole on October 30.

TheRosatom State Corporation fleet base in Murmansk will use an icebreaker to carry the torchmore than 5,000 kilometers. Over the course of 15 days, the Flame will travel from Murmansk to the North Pole and back again.The Olympic Flame will reportedly be lit in the heart of the Arctic Circle.

Overall, 14,000 runners will carry the torch across a total distance of 62,000 kilometers.The flame will make its way through 83 towns and cities before heading back into European Russia, and ultimately the Black Sea resort of Sochi for the 2014 Winter Olympics opening ceremony on February 7.
