(ATR) A 100-year-old mansion in Tokyo will fly the Italian flag during the 2020 Olympics.

The Kihinkan–Takanawa Manor House is designated as Casa Italia for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The venue was one of more than 60 locations considered for what is traditionally one of the premier hospitality centers at the Olympics. The council of CONI, the Italian National Olympic Committee, made the decision Monday. A release from CONI says the selection process lasted two years.

The Kihinkan–Takanawa Manor House was built for an aristocrat at the turn of the 20th century. Now it serves as a venue for functions on the grounds of the Grand Takanawa Hotel.

The location will be familiar to many in the Olympic Family. It was the venue for the 2018 ANOC General Assembly and hosted the 1990 IOC Session where Atlanta was selected to host the 1996 Games.

The mansion is about 10 kilometers (six miles) south of the Olympic Village and the Main Press Center.

The project will be financed totally by the commercial partners of CONI, as was the case for Casa Italias in Rio de Janeiro and Pyeongchang.

In addition to a hospitality venue known for serving authentic Italian cuisine, CONI will use the mansion as a headquarters and as a press center for Italian media.

With Milan just named the host for the 2026 Winter Games, the Kihinkan–Takanawa Manor House will help introduce the new host city.
