(ATR) The Organizing Committee of the postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will meet virtually with the chefs de mission of the 206 National Olympic Committees in mid-October.
The announcement of these meetings was revealed Friday during the remote meeting between IOC president Thomas Bach and NOC leaders from all over the world.
A Latin American source who participated in the virtual forum, which lasted for about three hours, served to confirm the support of the Olympic family for Bach's confidence that next year's Olympic Games will be the best prepared in history despite the worst global health crisis in 100 years.
At the same time Bach reiterated to the NOCs the moral and material support of the IOC to support the preparation of athletes amid the disadvantageous conditions imposed by the pandemic and the financial and public health crises.
"The NOCs of America will meet with the Japanese by video conference on October 15," the source told Around the Rings.
"There will be three seminars for those days, for the different geographic regions," said the source.
These virtual contacts will serve to further detail the 52 measures taken by the IOC and the organizers to maximize cost savings and increase efficiency in hosting the Games.
Among them is the reduction in the number of delegations participating in the Games.
One week before these seminars, the IOC Executive Board has announced a new meeting by video conference for October 7.
"The Executive Board is scheduled to receive an update on the activities of the IOC administration and reports from the Organizing Committees," said an IOC statement on Friday.
Bach met online on Thursday with the 105 members of the IOC, and other honorary members, and next Monday he will meet with the presidents of the international sports federations.
