(ATR) The International Olympic Committee Executive Board meets remotely on Thursday with an agenda dominated by the coronavirus pandemic.
The EB is expected to get an update from the IOC’s Tokyo 2020 task force, which is working with organizers in Japan to clear the numerous hurdles of holding the Games a year later than originally planned.
Also on the agenda for the scheduled three-hour meeting are reports on how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the various entities that make up the Olympic Movement including athletes, International Federations, National Olympic Committees and TOP sponsors. Anti-doping efforts and the financial consequences of the pandemic are also to be addressed.
The EB is also planning to discuss holding the 136th IOC Session scheduled for July 17 remotely.
The IOC has been doing almost all of its work remotely since closing its headquarters in Lausanne in March. IOC Olympic Games executive director Christophe Dubi told Around the Rings last month "It’s proving fairly effective. We have a good technological environment in place".
Dubi said that includes "a very early start for some of us" when it comes to working with Tokyo organizers.
Following the EB meeting on Thursday, IOC President Thomas Bach will hold a teleconference open to the media.
