(ATR) Archery, athletics, boxing and triathlon will soon have representation on the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations decision-making body.
ASOIF will vote to allocate four of its Council seats during its annual meeting on the sidelines of the SportAccord Convention April 4 in Aarhus, Denmark. The ASOIF Council consists of its president Francisco Ricci Bitti and six Council members.
Two IOC members are seeking to maintain their spots on the Council with World Archery president Ugur Erdener and International Boxing Association president C.K. Wu each wanting another four-year term. IOC member and International Triathlon Union president Marisol Casado is seeking her first term on the Council along with International Association of Athletics Federations president Sebastian Coe.
The vote at the ASOIF Assembly will likely be a formality since there are no other contenders on the ballot. If approved, Erdener and Wu will begin their second and final four-year term while Casado and Coe could stand for reelection in 2021.
Coe will be replacing IAAF vice president Sergey Bubka as the athletics representative on the council whose mandate is coming to an end following consecutive four-year terms.
Former International Hockey Federation president Leandro Negre is also vacating his seat on the Council after just two years. Negre stepped down as president of the FIH in November and was replaced by Narinder Batra.
The four new members will join president Bitti, SportAccord chief Patrick Baumann, International Canoe Federation President José Perurena and ASOIF executive director Andrew Ryan as leaders of the organization.
The elections will be live streamed on the SportAccord Convention website.
