(ATR) Unexpected near-gale force winds burst across the Olympic City Sunday, Day 2 of the Games. Rowing was cancelled at the Lagoa. Same for diving at the Maria Lenk pool in the far west of the city at the Olympic Park complex.
The winds shredded billboards. Coke lost two of them adjacent to the entrances for the Olympic golf course.
"We are definitely battling the wind today!" says Coke spokeswoman Kate Hartman.
But amid the blustery mayhem, the Rio Olympic Park was still streaming with spectators, with gymnastics, swimming and tennis drawing crowds. Nadal was playing on center court.
Gone were the delays of Day 1. No reports of delays at Deodoro, where numbers are not so big for shooting, hockey and rugby.

Bad plumbing led to a flooded hotel room for a top wire service reporter Saturday night. The mess came from above, sewage spilling down the walls. The displaced journos have been moved to another building.
Conditions seem better at the Main Press Center dining hall where lines are shorter and food and drink supplies have been restocked. Indeed, Saturday night Italian journalist Franco Fava sent out the news that the dining hall was out of beer.
Journalists who have covered at least ten Olympics will receive miniature version of the Rio torch Monday at a reception hosted by AIPS at Japan House.
