(ATR) Terrence Burns will expand his work on the Los Angeles 2024 Olympic bid as the new chief marketing officer.
A mainstay in the Olympic Movement since 1993, Burns began his work marketing the Games as managing director of Olympic programs for Delta Airlines, an official sponsor of the Atlanta 1996 Games. He has since worked as a consultant for the IOC’s TOP Sponsor program and an independent consultant for several winning Olympic bids.
Burns will seek to improve upon his Olympic record and bring the Games to Los Angeles over competitors Budapest, Paris and Rome.
"It’s a tremendous honor to work alongside Mayor Garcetti, Casey, Gene, Olympian Janet Evans and the entire LA 2024 team of professionals to help bring the Olympic Games back to a city whose ingenuity helped transform the Games twice before," said Burns.
Los Angeles 2024 bid leader Casey Wasserman says the marketing savvy and experience Burns brings to the team has already helped the bid get off to a "quick start".
"We're delighted that Terrence has taken a greater role in helping us tell our story of a bid that is innovative, creative and sustainable," said Wasserman.
Burns will take a temporary leave of absence from global advisory firm Teneo Sports as he works for the Los Angeles bid. Teneo Sports is also working with the LA 2024 candidature.
The IOC will choose the host of the 2024 Games in September 2017.
