Following a request from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) President, an historic meeting was held between the IOC and the association of IOC Recognized International Sports Federations (ARISF) during the 2016 SportAccord Convention in Lausanne, Switzerland – the Olympic capital.

Meeting attendees included IOC President Thomas Bach, four IOC vice presidents and senior management, ARISF President Raffaele Chiulli and the full ARISF Council.

President Chiulli said "The meeting took place behind the vision of unity of the IOC President because he sees these relationships as the key way to build sport at the world level. It was a successful meeting that generated open discussions around the table. We wanted to identify a joint pathway to further strengthen cooperation in key areas, such as the fight against doping, ARISF’s involvement in the 2016 IF recognition procedure and the being more relevant to our IFs and to the key stakeholders of the Olympic Movement."

Kit McConnell, the IOC Sports Director, said "The first joint meeting between the IOC President and Vice Presidents and the ARISF Council was of great value, and builds on our regular meetings and workshops with ARISF members. The 35 IOC Recognized International Federations play a vital and highly valued role within the Olympic Movement. We look forward to further developing our relationship through annual joint meetings with ARISF."
