(ATR) Massachusetts state leadership wants Boston 2024 to finish their revised bid plan soon.
Governor Charlie Baker has called for the bid leadership to finish revising the bid by next month, saying that citizens should have time to review the plan before submitting it to the IOC on Sept. 15.
"If you need time to vet it with all of the various interested parties, which I think is appropriate, then that backs you up to probably late May or early June to have something that people can chew on," Baker said reported by the Boston Globe.
Boston 2024 is reportedly in a state of fluxwith leadership changes reportedly coming soon. Regardless, current chief executive Richard Davey said to the Globe that Boston 2024 is in "total agreement" with Baker’s timeline.
"We feel good about the direction these plans are headed," Davey said.
"We want the public review. We want the public scrutiny."
Support for the battered Boston Olympic bid has grown monthly after registering a paltry 36 percent support in a Mar. 19 poll. The latest poll shows that Boston has over 50 percent support for the bid if no public money is used to finance the venues.
Boston 2024 delivered a "proof of concept" after winning the United States host nomination for the 2024 Olympics. After delivery, Richard Davey took over for previous chief executive Dan O’Connell, and Boston 2024 began revising its bid concept ahead of the Sept. 15 deadline to the IOC.
"I’m assuming that, in the end, the IOC will make its decision based on whoever it thinks has the best plan for the activities themselves, and that’s why I’m anxious to see the plan and I think a lot of other people are, too," Baker added.
Boston - along with Hamburg, Paris and Rome - are the confirmed cities bidding for the 2024 Olympics. A bid from Budapest, Hungary could be confirmed in June.
