(ATR)A fledgling New Zealand company wins THE SPOT’s Start-up battle at the second edition of the conference in Lausanne.
Spalk came out on top against a field of more than 40 in the competition operated by Venturelab, taking home a total cash price of CHF 5,000 ($5,000).
The start-up company offers a virtual commentary studio, allowing leagues and broadcasters to add multilingual and alternate commentaries to their existing live broadcasts from commentators behind their laptops, anywhere in the world and targeting fans demographically.
"It’s been a fantastic event! We have really enjoyed our time in Lausanne. It’s incredible to see the diversity of not only the start-ups but also the innovation coming out of all the federations, the universities, and everything here," said Ben Reynolds from Spalk.
Spalk was the choice of a jury made up of investors, experts from the Olympic Movement, and business leaders.
The audience at the SwissTech Convention Center also got to vote for its favorite and went with the German start-up Fun With Balls. Click here to find out about that company.
A total of 850 delegates from 35 countries representing 450 organizations and companies attended the conference, including more than 150 employees from Sport Federations and the International Olympic Committee, 80 start-ups and over 55 international speakers.
"It’s still a young event, but we have the feeling that we are helping to form a really dynamic sports and innovation community in the region and beyond, which is keen to share fresh ideas and team up with other creative partners." said organizer of THE SPOT Anna Hellman, Director of ThinkSport.
She added: "with our new Sports Innovation Hub, we will now have a solid and permanent platform for sport and innovation in the region."
At the opening of THE SPOT, it was announced that Eurovision Sport, Nagra Kudelski, SwissTiming and UEFA will officially support the new Sports Innovation Hub.
The third edition of THE SPOT will be held May 12-13, 2020.
Transfer Market Panel Named for Soccerex Europe
Soccerex confirms the panel for a timely discussion on the transfer market during Soccerex Europe.
Former Portugal international Deco will be joined by Dr. Erkut Sogut, the agent for Mesut Ozil, Esteve Calzada, CEO for Prime Time Sport, and Andrew Orsatti, communications director for FIFPro.

Birmingham 2022 Features at Major Events Summit
The fifth annual Major Events Summit will be at the home of the 2022 Commonwealth Games next month.
Major Events International (MEI) is hosting the conference, described as the only multi games business of sport summit, at Villa Park in Birmingham, UK on June 26-27.
Preparations for the 2022 Games and the 2021 Rugby League World Cup, also being held in the UK, will be discussed.
MEI says the focus will also be on International Major Sports Events including the Pan American Games 2019 and 2023, Tokyo 2020, and wider sports events in Japan with coverage also on the new phenomenon of esports and trends in the Chinese market.
Limited to 150 attendees, including key procurement influencers and leading suppliers to the major sports events market, the highly interactive - "non-conference" format will give all participants the option to contribute.
The two-day event will consist of workshops, panels and round table discussions. Games organisers will outline plans and opportunities while suppliers share experiences and lessons learned.
VISTA 2019
The VISTA 2019 Conference will take place from September 4-7, 2019 in Amsterdam.
The ninth edition of the conference for sports scientists and experts in Para sport is organized through a partnership between the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the Amsterdam Institute of Sport Science (AISS).
Next year’s theme is "Healthy and Fit for Optimal Performance". Around 300 of the world’s leading sports scientists, sport medicine practitioners, classifiers, coaches, athletes and sport administrators are expected to attend the conference.
VISTA is designed to promote and advance the mission, goals, objectives and reputation of the IPC while providing a platform for the academic world to meet with athletes and professional experts in the field of sport for athletes with an impairment.
