(ATR) The next president of SportAccord will be determined this Friday, April 22 by the SportAccord General Assembly. The SportAccord Convention begins today at the Swiss Tech Convention Center in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Two candidates are vying to become the next leader of the organization: International Basketball Federation (FIBA) general secretary Patrick Baumann and International Underwater Aquatics Federation (CMAS) president Anna Arzhanova.

Around the Rings spoke with each of the candidates last week about their goals for the organization and plans to get it back on track following last year’s edition that featured former SportAccord president Marius Vizer’s scathing remarks against the IOC and Olympic Agenda 2020. Those remarks would ultimately lead to his resignation.

A year later the assembly and convention are taking place in the Olympic capital of Lausanne and each candidate says they plan to work with the leaders of the International Olympic Committee and the International Federations that comprise SportAccord.

This year's general assembly also features the recommendation of three IFs for inclusion into the organization as World Armwrestling Federation, Rugby League International Federation and International Federation of Poker seek voting member status.

Around the Rings will be on the scene at the event as the organization seeks to take steps towards its future with a new leader at its helm.
