IOC, Sochi Ceremonies Team Meet

Gilbert Felli tells Around the Rings the less people know about Sochi 2014’s ceremonies, the better.

The IOC Olympic Games Executive Director is in Moscow this week for a meeting with ceremony producers to take place Tuesday or Wednesday.

"Ceremony is always a magical thing for the people," he tells ATR, stressing the element of surprise.

"At the end, the IOC has to review the level of preparation – where they are – and also see the script of the show."

Per historical precedent, says Felli, the duty falls to him and Coordination Commission chair Jean-Claude Killy, who together will "validate if we believe they are on the right direction".

The duo will be back in Russia next week for a Co-Comm inspection scheduled for Oct. 9 through 11.

Call for Cultural Olympiad Performers

Sochi 2014 is calling on singers, dancers, acrobats, mimes and more to apply for a spot in the Cultural Olympiad of Russia’s first Winter Games.

Solo artists or groups worldwide are eligible to participate in the public contest. Both winners and finalists will perform for Games-goers during Sochi 2014.

Audition tapes are due via email to contest@sochi2014.com or via mail to P.O. Box 154, Moscow 105005 by Aug. 28, 2013.

Entries will be available for online viewing – and voting – at www.culture.sochi2014.com beginning Oct. 29, 2012.

Finalists will be announced Sept. 10, 2013, after which a panel of cultural figures will decide the three winners.
