(ATR) Medal events in five sports feature at the European Games in Minsk on Monday.
Both the men’s and women’s 3x3 basketball titles were decided, with Russia defeating Latvia 21-14 to top the podium in the men's while France defeated Estonia 21-8 to win women's gold.
In shooting, Antonio Bailon and Fatima Galvez of Spain won the mixed team shotgun trap. Taking gold in the women’s 10m air rifle was Laura Coman of Romania while Sergey Richter of Israel won in the men’s 10m air rifle.
There were five gold medals on offer in judo on Monday. The three men’s winners were Mikail Ozerler of Turkey in 90kg, Varlam Liparteliani of Georgia in 100kg, and Guram Tushishvili of Georgia in the +100kg.
The two women’s winners were Klara Apotekar of Slovenia in 78kg and Maryna Slutskaya of Belarus in the +78kg category.
The Italian pair of Michela Castoldi and Davide Donati won the mixed pairs in aerobic gymnastics while in trampoline gymnastics, Poland took home gold in the men’s synchronized through Lukasz Jaworski and Artur Zakrzewski. Lea Labrousse of France won the women’s individual gold medal.
Russia is currently topping the medals table with 22 gold among a total of 48 medals. The host nation Belarus is second with 11 gold among 38 medals and Georgia, with six gold and 20 total, is in third.
There will be three sports beginning play on Tuesday: beach soccer, canoe sprint and wrestling.
Medal events on Tuesday include aerobic gymnastics, road cycling, judo, shooting rifle & pistol, table tennis, and trampoline gymnastics.
Dynamic New Athletics (DNA), which made its international debut on Sunday at the Dinamo Stadium, returns for day two on Tuesday.
Belarusians Elvira Herman (gold in the women's 100m hurdles), Tatsiana Khaladovich (gold in the women's javelin) and Maksim Nedasekau (gold in the men's high jump) were among the individual medal winners on the opening day on Sunday.
Belarus and Ukraine came into the new mixed-gender, team-based athletics format event as the favorites.
