PyeongChang Bid Document Approved

The stakeholders of the PyeongChang bid for the 2018 Olympics approved the bid’s Candidature File on Thursday.

PyeongChang 2018 Bid Chairman and CEO Yang Ho Cho, Korean Olympic Committee president Yong Sung Park, Gangwon Province Governor Kwang Jae Lee, and PyeongChang Mayor Seok Rae Lee signed the Candidate File and Letter of Undertaking at a meeting in Seoul. The file will be presented to the IOC on Jan. 11.

The Candidature File details the technical aspect of how an Olympics will be organized.

Cho said: "The PyeongChang 2018 Candidate File is a fundamental document for the IOC’s evaluation of our proposed Winter Games Plan and we are delighted to confirm that it has been endorsed and approved by all major parties involved with the bid.

"The submission of our Candidate File to the IOC represents a milestone moment in our campaign, and is an important opportunity to highlight PyeongChang 2018’s commitment to offer the Olympic Movement a world of New Horizons".

On July 6, the IOC will select a host city for the 2018 Olympics at its Session in Durban, South Africa.

Luge Proves Munich Readiness

Munich organizers claim they have more proof the city is ready to host the Olympics.

The Koenigssee Sliding Centre hosted a two-day International Luge Federation world cup event that concluded Thursday. The bid proposed staging luge and other sliding events at the venue.

Katarina Witt, bid chair said "we are only six days in to 2011, but already we have demonstrated that, when it comes to staging elite winter sports events effectively, efficiently and in a safe and secure environment, Bavaria is second to none."

Three of Munich 2018’s potential competition venues – Munich’s Olympic Park, Garmisch-Partenkirchen’s ski jump and the track in Koenigssee – have staged Olympic-standard World Cup competitions this year. Munich 2018 claims a combined 55,000 spectators went to the events.

Armin Zoeggler of Italy won the men’s luge competition while Natalie Geisenberger of Germany, a Munich ambassador won the women’s event.

Ski-Lift Company Lends Support to Annecy

Compagnie du Mont-Blanc will give Annecy a lift as the race for the 2018 Winter Olympics heats up.

Wednesday’s partnership between the bid committee and the ski-lift operator comes exactly six months before the IOC will vote on a host July 6 in Durban, South Africa.

The deal signed by Annecy 2018 co-chair Jean-Luc Rigaut, supervisory board chair Christian Monteil and Compagnie du Mont-Blanc CEO Mathieu Dechavanne makes the company the third "local supporter" of the bid.

"It’s a huge asset for the bid to have Compagnie du Mont-Blanc as one its sponsors, operating across 3 major ski-areas in Chamonix and 3 famous excursion sites in the Chamonix valley," Monteil said in a statement.

"We are thrilled to welcome to the marketing program a business which is local to the Chamonix area, operating within the Annecy 2018 playing field."

The bid now boasts 10 official partners, five supporters and three local supporters.
