(ATR) Chan Wang Eom, Director General for Marketing at PyeongChang 2018, tells Around the Rings, that no Authorized Ticket Reseller associated with past ticket scandals can resell PyeongChang 2018 tickets.
PyeongChang 2018 launched its online ticket portal in conjunction with one year to go celebrations. A total of 1.07 million tickets will be available for purchase, with 70 percent of those available domestically. Domestic buyers have until April 23 to register for the first lottery of Games tickets. Those who win tickets in the lottery will be eligible to receive souvenir tickets.
Foreign buyers will have to purchase from a list of Authorized Ticket Resellers. Eom says that new protections have been put in place to discourage ticket touting from resellers. THG, the company at the heart of the Irish Rio 2016 ticketing scandal, will not be allowed to resell PyeongChang 2018 tickets. A spokesperson for THGpreviously told ATR that the company had anticipated selling Olympic Games tickets for the PyeongChang and Tokyo Olympics.
"There have been some issues with this selection of the resellers, and we are continuing to discuss this appointment of resellers with the IOC," Eom said to ATR. "We have not approved resellers formally approved in such scandals."
Currently, no company is listed as the Authorized Ticket Reseller for the Olympic Council of Ireland for PyeongChang 2018.
