(ATR) The South Korean government announced Friday that the Gangneung Hockey Centre and the Gangneung Oval will be spared following the conclusion of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics.

The two venues were originally slated for demolition after the Games because the organizing committee could not find a legacy use for the facilities.

Now, South Korean Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-Ahn says the hockey centre will be used to host semi-professional and youth hockey matches and the Gangneung Oval could be used as a training facility ahead of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

Daemyung Holdings will manage the hockey centre while no companies have made an offer for the oval.

Hwang says the hockey center will be finalized in November while the oval should finish construction in March 2017. These venues will host hockey, curling, figure skating, short track and speed skating events during the Games.

The PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics are scheduled from Feb. 9-25.
