Oslo City Council Bid Decision
The Oslo City Council will vote on the city’s 2022 Olympic bid on Wednesday.
Bid concepts will be proposed by the working group studying the bid.
If the council approves the bid, the Ministry of Culture will then study the bid and offer its financial guarantees.
A referendum for the city is scheduled for Sept. 9.
A joint Polish/Slovak bid is moving forward and bids from Munich and Ukraine are also expected, with several other bids possible.
The IOC will select a host city in 2015.
Pakistan Ignoring IOC Orders
An unrecognized Pakistan Olympic Association is apparently defying IOC orders to avoid a suspension from the Olympic Movement.
Reports in Pakistani media say the "interim Pakistan Olympic Association" has scheduled elections for July 5.
Following the May 30 meeting of the IOC Executive Board, a warning was issued to the breakaway group, warning that a suspension is possible if the group continues to "disrupt theoperations" of the recognized POA and ignores communication from the IOC.
In a statement, the EB "noted with great concern that the situation of the Olympic Movement in Pakistan has deteriorated."
The IOC did not immediately respond to a request for comment on what impact the call for elections might have.
The Pakistani government has insisted on term limits for sport officials in the country. The Olympic Charter requires National Olympic Committees to be free of government interference.
Oceania Starts RWC Qualifying
2015 Rugby World Cup qualifying for Oceania starts July 6.
Cook Islands and Tahiti will open the Oceania Cup tournament in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
The teams remaining in contention are Fiji, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. The winner will face Fiji in 2014 for the Oceania 1 slot.
