(ATR) The Mexican Olympic Committee decision to have an open online vote to choose the uniform of the national delegation for the Tokyo 2020 opening parade is proving popular.

"The public and the athletes have welcomed this idea," COM president Carlos Padilla Becerra told Around the Rings.

The COM together with the company High Life presented three choices on the official website and it will be on April 22 when the winner is revealed.

High Life is a historic Mexican fashion company, born more than 120 years ago on a street that converges in the historic center of Mexico City.

"The outfits carry a message from our history and culture. In the internal meetings, the decisions to choose have been difficult, so it is very important that the public is the one to decide," said Padilla.

"As a thank you to the people who vote and are part of this unique experience, they will receive in their email the code with which they can make purchases with a 15 percent discount, both in High Life and in its sister chains Robert's and Men's Fashion," revealed Jeannette Haber, the company's Director of Marketing and E-Commerce.

The design of the three proposals was inspired by Mexican culture: the "TehuanaOaxaqueña" of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca; "Piedra del Sol", a tribute to Tenochtitlán, one of the greatest civilizations in the world, and the "Clásico de Charro", a costume inspired by two iconic characters: the mariachi and the Mexican charro.

There will be 120 uniforms made of the winning project although it is still unknown how many athletes will parade since both the IOC and the Japanese organizers continue to expand the unprecedented protocol to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

People who wish to take part can go here and choose their favorite outfit.

The voting was opened on April 8 and will close on April 22.
