Olympic Agenda 2020 Renewing Interest in Hosting Games -- ATRadio

(ATR) "Shifting the definition of a host city" will be the major them for this week's Host Cities summit in Dubai.

In this edition of ATRadio, Host Cities 2015 representativeEdd Ross says this year's summit comes at a particularly interesting time.

"The IOC's Olympic Agenda 2020 is shifting the definition of a host city."

He adds, "Those reforms, sweeping changes could reduce the cost of hosting the Games.

"More around the world could see major events and of course the benefits of those major events."

The 2015 Host Cities Summit opens in Dubai on Nov. 18 under the theme, "Embracing Future Events."

Keynote speakers for the event includeSebastian Coe, president of IAAF, athletics' world governing body; David Simon, president of the L.A. Sports Council andTokyo 2020 communications directorMasa Takaya.

The summit, which ends on Nov. 19, will focus on ways an event like the Olympics can leave a "positive economic and social impact" on a host city. Global experts will host a series of panel debates, case studies, round tables and workshops on the process of staging major sporting events.
