(ATR)In a close vote at the IOC Session in Kuala Lumpur, Beijing is elected as the host of the 2022 Winter Olympics.

The result of the voting was 44 to 40, Almaty, Kazakhstan losing to the Chinese capital.

The choice of Beijing is termed historic and safe by IOC president Thomas Bach, but the seven years between the IOC election and the hosting of the games always has some twists and turns.

Beijing will become the first city to host the Games in both winter and summer.
