Malaysia Bidding for 2015 Session
Kuala Lumpur will be the Olympic Council of Malaysia's bid city for the 2015 IOC Session.
OCM secretary general Datuk Sieh Koh Chi told the Bernama news service the bid documents were delivered to the IOC headquarters on Saturday.
Among the items on the Session’s agenda will be to decide the host of the 2022 Winter Olympics.
It's unknown which other cities will bid for the Session.
South Africa Medal Targets
The South African Olympic Committee, SASCOC, is targeting 12 medals in as many as five sports in London.
SASCOC CEO Tubby Reddy made the announcement after briefing South Africa’s Parliamentary commission on sports.
"The medals would come from swimming, athletics, and maybe cycling, canoeing and rowing," he was quoted by the Cape Times newspaper.
He said SASCOC will have spent $7 million on the Olympic team’s preparations for London when all the costs are tallied.
Reddy also said SASCOC expects a team of more than 100 to represent South Africa in London.
Romanian Olympic Future
2012 is set to be a record year for the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee, according to the organization’s president Octavian Moraiu.
In a media briefing sent to Around the Rings, Moraiu touts his accomplishments over the last eight years, saying he took Romanian sport "out of the shadow of communist era doping accusations and mismanagement to rebuild Romania’s sporting reputation on the international stage."
The statement added that while the NOC has progressed, several challenges remain ahead for the ROSC.
"We have to rebuild our grounds in order tocope with the new realities" he said. "If we want to do it right for those who will follow, we must carefully take all the steps…This might take some time."
Among other accomplishments in his tenure were bringing all Romanian sports under the jurisdiction of the ROSC, opening a new headquarters and landing the European Youth Olympic Festival, the first step in a bid to host the Winter Olympics or Youth Olympic Games.
Cuba, Austria Sign Partnership
The Olympic Committees of Austria and Cuba signed an agreement to promote sport.
According to a report in Prensa Latina,Cuban Olympic Committee president Jose Ramon Fernandez and Karl Stoss, president of the Austrian Olympic Committee, signed the agreement in Cuba on Monday.
With the agreement, the two NOCs will share practices related to anti-doping efforts, sport and sport science.
"I am sure this exchange will work wonders, because we are a young people, peaceful and hard working," Fernandez was quoted as saying.
"It is an honor to be here and to have our organizations sharing similar duties in bringing youth closer to sports; that is why we should build bridges of friendship between both our countries," Stoss told reporters.
Serbian Olympic Chief Honors Azeri President
Vlade Divac, president of the Serbian Olympic Committee, presented Azerbaijan president Ilham Aliyev with a "Worthy Friend of the Balkans" award.
Divac, who visited Aliyev as head of the Ana & Vlade Divac Foundation, gave the honor to Aliyev to improve bilateral relations between Serbia and Azerbaijan.
Aliyev said one area in which he hopes to improve cooperation with Serbia is in the field of sport.
