IOC Backs Nepal Olympic Committee Leader

The IOC says Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan is the rightful leader of the Nepal Olympic Committee.

Pradhan, who has led the NOC since 2007, had his leadership challenged earlier in the year after winning reelection.

Nepal’s sport council wrote to Lausanne informing the IOC that two NOCs were operating in the Himalayan country. But the IOC said only the Pradhan-led NOC will be recognized.

The rival NOC is led by former president of the legitimate NOC, Rukma Shamsher Rana.

"The so-called other NOC which you mentioned in your letter has no authority to designate itself as a NOC and to operate as such within your country," local media reported the IOC and Olympic Council of Asia as writing in their letter to the Nepali sports council.

"Rana, as a former president of the NOC, should be very well aware of these fundamental rules of the Olympic Movement and should immediately stop any action against the Olympic Charter."

NOCs Visit London

Several National Olympic Committees paid a visit to London’s Olympic Park earlier this week.

Among the NOCs on the visit were Malawi, Slovenia, Solomon Islands and Somalia.

They visited the Olympic Stadium, basketball arena, velodrome, and other 2012 venues.

Somali Olympic Committee vice president Duran Ahmed Farah said the venues "were really quite admirable" in a press release.

U.S. Virgin Islands Olympic Committee Banquet

The Virgin Islands Olympic Committee celebratesits 45th anniversary on Nov. 19. The anniversary will be marked with a banquet in St. Thomas.

Part of the festivities include a celebration of the athletes who competed at the 2008 Olympics, 2010 Youth Olympic Games, and 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games.

"We hold our banquet every five years but this one will be special because we are celebrating our 45th anniversary," VIOC president Hans Lawaetz was quoted by local media.

"It also should be a special event for the many athletes we're planning to recognize for their athletic achievements in international competition."
