New Rink to Host PyeongChang 2018 Test Event

(ATR) The first of four ice sports venues for the PyeongChang Olympics is ready for its test event.

TheGangneung Ice Arena is one of six newly built venues for the Winter Games, which begin in less than 14 months.

"The completion of the ice venues is a meaningful step for PyeongChang 2018," Gangwon ProvinceGovernor Choi Moon-soon said in a statement.

"The venues will be the center of excitement during the Games."

Located in the Gangneung Olympic Park, the newly built venue features a 60 meter (197 feet) by 30 meter (98 feet) ice rink and seating for 12,000 fans. During the Games the arena will be the location for Short Track Speed Skating and Figure Skating events.

The Gangneung Ice Arenais just one of the many venues to be tested ahead of the Winter Games.The venue will endure its first trial on Dec. 16-18 for the ISU World Cup Short Track.Following the Short Track competition, organizers are finalizing arrangements for the Alpine Far East Cup & President Cup, that runs from Jan. 16-17. There are still 22 more test events to go for the 2016-2017 season.

The global information and communications technology solutions providerhas been selected as the official supplier of network equipment for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

"We believe that Huawei will supply cutting-edge network equipment to the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, supporting POCOG to offer athlete- and audience-oriented network services that will bring to life unprecedented connectivity and experience," President & CEO of POCOG Lee Hee-beom said in a statement.
