Road to Sochi 2014

The 100-day countdown to NBC's coverage of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia begins Monday.

The 10th edition of the IOC World Conference on Sport and Environment will take place October 30 to November 1 in Sochi, Russia.The biennial event attracts representatives from Olympic organizations, the United Nations, academic institutions, sponsors and the media. This year’s edition will also include the presentation of the third IOC Sport and Environment Awards.Around the RingsEuropean correspondent Mark Bisson will cover news coming out of the conference.

The Sochi torch relay continues making its way through St. Petersburg on Monday. Around 257 torchbearers will carry the flame through the city.

Overall, 14,000 runners will carry the torch across a total distance of 62,000 kilometers before it reachesthe opening ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics on February 7.

The Olympic ski season kicked offinSoelden, Austria with the women's and men's World Cup giant slaloms taking place on Saturday and Sunday. The International Ski Federation will also stage World Cup events inLevi, Finland, the United States, Canada, and Europe.For many teams, these competitions will determine who travels to Sochi for the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Sport Cities Index

The Sport Cities Index survey, presented by Around the Rings and TSE Consulting, goes live on Monday, Nov. 4.Metrics evaluated include public perception of: the city as a host for major sports events, the city having world-class facilities and infrastructure, as well as general attractiveness of the city as a destination.

Baku 2015 Coordination Commission

Around the Ringsis toldHellenic Olympic Committee president Spyros Capralos will lead the first visit of the European Olympic Committee’s coordination commission to Baku this week.The check-up on preparations for the 2015 European Games is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.

FIFA U-17 World Cup

The United Arab Emirates is staging the U-17 World Cup. Competition began on October 17, and ends on November 8. Mexico hosted the event in 2011.

Federations News

The International Gymnastics Federation will stage the 2013 Trampoline World Championships November 7 through November 10 in Sofia, Bulgaria.

The 2013 AIBA World Boxing Championships concluded in Almaty, Kazakhstan on Sunday.Elite boxers from around the world meet every two years to compete in this event.Baku, Azerbaijanhosted the 2011 World Boxing Championships.The inaugural AIBA Men's World Championships took place in 1974 in Havana, Cuba.

Competition in the International Weightlifting Federation's 2013 Weightlifting World Championships came to a close on Sunday. Wroclaw, Poland staged the event.
