IOC Program Commission Readies Paris Sports

The final slate of sports for the 2024 Olympics in Paris is expected to be reviewed this week in Lausanne by the Olympic Program Commission.

The 22 member commission meets June 26 and 27.

On the winter Olympics side there may be some discussions about adjustments to the program for Beijing 2022.

It’s possible the question of esport and the Olympics might also come up, especially with plans afoot for a summit on esport in Lausanne next month.

Senior Italian IOC member Franco Carraro chairs the commission, which includes about a dozen IOC members and a range of representatives from NOCs, summer and winter sports and technical experts.

Bobsleigh Federation Electing President

A contested election for the presidency offers a bit of intrigue this week at the annual Congress for the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation.

The Federation will meet in Rome June 26 and 27.

Incumbent Ivo Ferriani is being challenged by two candidates.

Swiss Fritz Burkard is a member of the IBSF Para Sport Committee and vice-president of the St. Moritz Bobsleigh Club.

Sarah Storey, president of the National Federation Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton, is the daughter of Robert Storey, who preceded Ferriani as international federation president.

Now in his third term as president, Ferriani brings the influence and prestige of an IOC membership and now this year a seat on the Executive Board. Should Ferriani lose the election those IOC positions would be over as well.

About 150 delegates from 41 federations are expected for the Congress. The election is scheduled for June 27.
