IOC Evaluation Commission Visits PyeongChang

Around the Rings will be on the scene in PyeongChang this week for the IOC Evaluation Commission's visit to the South Korean bid city.

The inspection team chaired by Swedish IOC member Gunilla Lindberg will arrive Wednesday and depart Sunday.

Alpine Skiing World Champs

Munich 2018 has its ski site on display again this week at the alpine world championships.

Around the Rings will be on the scene in Garmisch-Partenkirchen with regular updates from ATR correspondent Brian Pinelli.

Men will have their super combined finals Monday, giant slalom Friday and slalom Sunday.

Women’s giant slalom will hand out medals Thursday and women’s slalom on Saturday.

It’s on Wednesday that the International Ski Federation will try to prove the worth of its team event.

IOC president Jacques Rogge will decide whether to add the country-against-country competition to the Olympic program after this winter sports season.

Tuesday Talk

Figure skating’s Four Continents championship kicks off Thursday in Chinese Taipei and run through Sunday. The event functionsas a counterpart to the European championships and features skaters from the Americas, Africa, Asia and Oceania.

Check back Tuesday for an interview with International Skating Union president Ottavio Cinquanta.

Despite his refusal to answer any questions he deemed "too spicy", the Italian IOC member hits upon TV rights revenue, Innsbruck 2012 preparations, the 2018 bid race and figure skating’s team event, which is up for addition to Sochi this winter.

European Youth Olympic Festival

The 10th edition of the European Youth Winter Olympic Festival runs through Saturday.

Competition kicked off over the weekend in Liberec, Czech Republic.

Medals in eight sports are up for grabs during the Festival, which is organized for athletes aged 14 to 18.

The European Youth Olympic Festival was founded by IOC president Jacques Rogge when he was president of the European Olympic Committees.

Plans for Cultural Olympiad

LOCOG director of culture will appear before the London Assembly on Tuesday to discuss plans for the Cultural Olympiad.

Also Tuesday, LOCOG will release a sport-by-sport breakdown of the competition dates for the 2012 Games.
