IOC News
The fifth Coordination Commission for the 2016 Rio Olympics began Sunday and continues through tomorrow.
The IOC Executive Board will meet September 4 through September 5 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Buenos Aires will also host the 125th IOC Session, which begins on September 7.
- The IOC will select a host city for the 2020 Summer Olympics on September 7. Istanbul, Madrid, and Tokyo are bidding to stage the 2020 Games.
- The sports program for the Summer 2020 Olympic Games will be decided Sep 8. Squash, wrestling, and baseball/softball are all lobbying for inclusion.
- The IOC will elect its new president on September 10.There are six candidates in the IOC presidential race: Thomas Bach of Germany, Denis Oswald of Switzerland, Sergey Bubka of Ukraine, Richard Carrion of Puerto Rico, Ser Miang Ng of Singapore, and C.K. Wu of Chinese Taipei.
UCI Presidential Election
The international cycling union will elect its new president on September 27 in Florence, Italy.British Cycling chief Brian Cookson is campaigning against the UCI'ssitting two-term president Pat McQuaid.
US Open
Elite tennis players continue competition in New York this week for the US Open.Matches began on August 26 and end on September 9.
FISA President
Three candidates are vying to assume the helm of FISA, the international rowing federation. Incumbent Denis Oswald is stepping down in his campaign to become IOC President.
John Boultbee from Australia, Jean-Christophe Rolland from France and Tricia Smith from Canada are the three candidates.
The election will take place Sept. 2 at the FISA Ordinary Congress in Chungju, South Korea.
ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships
The International Canoe Federation's Canoe Sprint World Championships continue inDuisburg, Germany.Competition began on August 27 and ends on September 9.
An estimated 1,200 athletes from 90 countries are participating in the World Championships at theWedau regatta course.
Francophone Games
Nice, France will host the 2013 Francophone Games. Events begin September 7 and end September 15.
America's Cup Finals
On September 7 through September 21 matches take place in the world's most prestigious sailing event. Emirates Team New Zealand is challenging Oracle Team USA for the title.Sailing takes place in San Francisco.
Judo World Championships
Competition in the International Judo Federation's World Championships began on August 26 in Rio de Janeiro, and ended on Sunday.
