IOC EB Meets

Members of the IOC Executive Board head to Lausanne Palace Hotel this week following the Nov. 11 flooding at Vidy.

Monday’s session includes a joint meeting with the Executive Council of the Association of National Olympic Committees.

EB members will spend the bulk of Tuesday hearing reports from IOC commissions, IOC administration as well as organizers of upcoming Olympics and Youth Olympic Games.

Decisions on various ethics cases as well as possible suspensions of the Indian Olympic Association and Kuwait Olympic Committee are also expected to be announced.

President Jacques Rogge’s closing press conference is scheduled for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Lausanne time.

Host Cities Summit

Around the Rings will be on the scene in Dubai for this week’s Host Cities Summit presented by Emirates.

"Effective strategies for winning and hosting major sporting events" is the theme of the two-day conference.

Speakers include Ser Miang Ng, Vice President of the IOC; Danny Jordaan, Vice President of the South African Football Association; Alexey Sorokin, CEO of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Local Organizing Committee; Eduardo Paes, Mayor of Rio de Janeiro; Juergen Mueller, FIFA head of 2014, 2018, 2022 World Cups; and Heidi Ueberroth, President of NBA International.

Sessions run Tuesday and Wednesday.

EOC at Home in Rome

European Olympic Committees meet at EOC headquarters in Rome this week due to ongoing hostilities between Israel and Gaza.

Friday and Saturday’s annual general assembly was originally scheduled for Eilat, Israel but was moved away from the Red Sea resort because delegates would have had to travel through Tel Aviv, which is under threat.

Along with the 49 NOCs from Europe, the EOC assembly is expected to draw IOC president Jacques Rogge, who cancelled a trip to Rio de Janeiro last month based on medical advice as he recovers from hip surgery. Also coming to the meeting are representatives of upcoming Olympic Games and the three bid cities for the 2020 Olympics: Istanbul, Madrid and Tokyo.
