(ATR)Today marks three years to go until the third winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in the Olympic Capital of Lausanne.

Over 60 stakeholders in the Games including representatives of the City of Lausanne, the Swiss Olympic Committee and national sports federations gathered at a local restaurant to celebrate the momentous occasion.

"This symbolic date is an opportunity for us to pause for a moment and appreciate the quantity and the quality of the work carried out to date," President of the Games Organizing Committee Patrick Baumann said in a statement.

"We have succeeded in bringing together a large number of partners who all share our desire to go beyond the organization of a simple international sports competition by exploring all possible educational and cultural aspects," CEO of the Organizing Committee Ian Logan states.

This year the Organizing Committee have established the village of Diablerets as the official training facility for future ski athletes as well as involving the St. Moritz village for snow sport events.

The Committee intends to continue working to finalize its road map to success - the Games Foundation Plan - which will be submitted to the International Olympic Committee this March.

The next YOG after Lausanne will not be held in 2022 as originally scheduled. At the 127th IOC Session in 2014 it was decided to move the YOG to non-Olympic years. So, the 4th Summer Youth Olympic Games will now take place in 2023 rather than 2022 with all future Games being held one year before the corresponding Olympic Games.

The next summer YOG will be held in Buenos Aires on Oct. 1-12, 2018. Athletes aged 15-18 from 206 countries will compete in 31 sports over the 12 days. Dance, Karate and Sport Climbing are all new additions to the Buenos Aires YOG program.
