Les athlètes américains seront-ils privés des Jeux de Tokyo ? Subiront ils les conséquences de la position de leur gouvernement sur la question du dopage ? Difficile à croire. Et pourtant, le risque existe. Il est même brandi depuis quelques heures par l’Agence mondiale antidopage (AMA).
En cause, la menace des autorités américaines de cesser de payer leur part dans le budget de l’AMA tant que l’agence basée à Montréal n’aura pas adopté un solide plan de réformes. Les Etats-Unis n’ont jamais retenu leur critiques sur la politique de l’AMA. Mais leur défiance est montée d’un cran, cette année, avec la menace de retirer leurs billes.
Pour rappel, les Américains sont les premiers contributeurs de l’AMA, après le CIO, avec une participation de 2,7 millions de dollars au titre de l’année 2020. Pour l’exercice en cours, le budget de l’agence s’élève à 37,4 millions de dollars.
