LOS ANGELES - LA 2024 bid leaders today applauded legendary filmmaker and entrepreneur George Lucas’ selection of Los Angeles as the home for his long-planned Lucas Museum of Narrative Art.
The museum promises a groundbreaking experience, blending fine art with popular art and pushing the boundaries of interactive digital media, with an expected completion date of 2020. The Lucas Museum will be built in Exposition Park, steps away from the iconic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and the planned Banc of California Stadium – key venues at the heart of the LA 2024 Downtown Sports Park.
The Lucas Museum adds to LA’s rich and vibrant arts and culture landscape, which LA 2024 leaders have vowed to draw inspiration from in order to deliver a Games experience that engages the next generation in LA and across the Olympic Movement. The Lucas Museum, which will be entirely privately financed by Lucas, will join a cultural compound at Exposition Park that already houses three museums, the California African American Museum, the California Science Center, and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.
LA 2024 Chairman Casey Wasserman said: "We are thrilled to welcome the Lucas Museum to the City of Angels, a cultural institution which will embody all of the reasons LA is uniquely positioned to deliver New Games for a new era. Los Angeles is known around the world as a global hub of entertainment, and LA 2024 has been committed from day one to harnessing LA’s innovation and creativity to deliver a Games experience that reaches the next generation.
"I want to thank Mayor Garcetti for never wavering in his belief and work to attract this museum and show the world the new LA. With the Lucas Museum, LA 2024 will weave our city’s vibrant arts and culture scene into our Games to create a uniquely dynamic and enriching experience for all visitors in 2024."
