(ATR) World Sailing president Kim Andersen says the federation is planning ways to increase its prominence in the Olympic Movement.

Andersen, who took over the federation in November, says that World Sailing seemed to be lost prior to his election.

"I think there were some concerns about the direction because the direction of where the sport was going was not very clear due to a lot of circumstances," Andersen tells Around the Rings in the latest special edition ATRadio from the sidelines of the SportAccord Convention.

"Sailing has been for quite some time searching for a direction to decide what policies do we want to set for the future and where we want to go," he says. "Having said that, I still think compared to many other sports we have done a good job of staying in the Olympics, being very competitive conducting our sport and making it interesting for the public."

Andersen talks about the three major paths he outlined in his election manifesto to increase interest in sailing, the federation’s ambitions at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Games and its efforts to rejoin the Paralympic program.
