Buenos Aires – January 10th. Shunichi Suzuki, the Japanese minister in charge of the Tokyo 2020
Olympic and Paralympic Games, visited on Wednesday some of the sport facilities where the Buenos
Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games will take place, including the Olympic Village that will lodge the
almost 4000 athletes competing at the event.
Accompanied by the Japanese Ambassador to Argentina, Noriteru Fukushima, among other officials,
Minister Suzuki toured the construction sites at the Youth Olympic Centre in the south of the Argentine
capital, where more than half of the sporting competitions will be held during the Games.
He also viewed the adjacent Youth Olympic Village which is nearing completion.
During the visit Minister Suzuki was informed about different aspects of the Games, the construction of
temporary sport infrastructure, the legacy that it will leave the city, and the eventual conversion of the
Village into a model neighbourhood once the event has finished.
"I think that it was very important for us to receive them and for them to have this visit and see how we
are utilising various elements," said Cecilia Farias, Director of Sport Facilities for Buenos Aires 2018.
"Most of the facilities for these Games are temporary, except for the Youth Olympic Centre, which is
part of the legacy. I think what our visitors from Tokyo 2020 are looking for is to see how we have
used and combined a number of elements, both in the construction aspect as well as in the social
aspect," she added.

The Youth Olympic Games (YOG) is an international, multi-sport event for young athletes aged 15-18
with an educative and cultural nature that aims to promote the Olympic values in youth. The event,
which takes place every four years (in its two versions, winter and summer, that alternate every two
years), is promoted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The Buenos Aires 2018 Youth
Olympic Games will be held from October 6 -18 with the participation of 3998 athletes from 206
countries.
