(ATR) International World Games Association President Jose Perurena says he is "fully satisfied" with the beginning to the Wroclaw 2017 World Games.
Perurena’s assessment comes in a positive midterm report delivered from the IWGA. Included in the report is a letter from IOC Sports Director Kit McConnell giving "sincere congratulations" for the Games’ success.
"The levels of organization and branding I saw during my time in Wroclaw were particularly impressive," McConnell added.
IOC President Thomas Bach visited the sport climbing center to get a preview of one of the five new sports added to the Tokyo 2020 program.
"You can see [why the sport was included in Tokyo] because with climbing you can address the challenges of modern sports," Bach said on his visit. "This means we have to go where the people are: to the urban centers."
Three days of competition remain in Wroclaw with Russia currently topping the medal table. The Russian delegation has earned 26 gold medals and 48 total medals. A total of 53 delegations have won at least one medal in Wroclaw. The event’s closing ceremony will take place on July 30, passing the World Games flag to the Birmingham, United States delegation.
In addition to the success of the sports program, IWGA officials were quick to highlight the quality of Olympic Channel broadcasting in Wroclaw. The transmissions are the first time that the World Games were broadcast in a worldwide arrangement. The IWGA expects a total of 340 hours of coverage will come from Wroclaw. Viewers in 120 countries are able to access the Games on the Olympic Channel.
"I think we are delivering the best pictures we ever had of The World Games and of some of the sports in our event," Joachim Gossow, IWGA chief executive, said.
