(ATR) IOC president Thomas Bach showed President Macky Sall of Senegal around the Olympic Museum as part of a visit to Lausanne and the International Olympic Committee.
Senegalese NOC president and IOC member Mamadou Diagna Ndiaye and the chair of the IOC Ethics Commission, Youssoupha Ndiaye accompanied the two presidents on Wednesday, according to the IOC.
The two leaders were in agreement on "the essential role that sports play in bringing people together and promoting the values of peace and friendship" and the importance of Olympic Agenda 2020.
Bach took the opportunity to congratulate Sall on the efforts of his government to promote sport in Senegal.
"Through the renovation of numerous sport facilities, the construction of new stadiums and the implementation of programs for the promotion of Olympic values among the youth of the country, Senegal has acknowledged the role that sports can play," Bach said.
For his part, Sall stressed the importance of sport in society and the strong cooperation between the United Nations and the IOC. President Sall also praised IOC initiatives including Olympic Agenda 2020, which he says "helps to secure the future of sport and the Olympic Movement."
Bach, during talks with Sall over lunch at the Olympic Museum, updated the Senegalese president on the progress being made on the implementation of Olympic Agenda 2020, according to the IOC.
