(ATR) A recent study shows the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima are in need of more promotion less than a year before the event begins.
The research developed by the Lima Organizing Committee (COPAL) concludes that only 15.9 percent of those surveyed in the Peruvian capital know that a major event that will take place in 2019. Of those, 84.4 percent know that it is the Pan American Games.
"While some people remember the logo (27.5 percent), and the mascot Milco (34.5 percent), few end up relating it to the Games," says the report accessed byAround The Rings.
The survey comes at a time when the Peruvian congress has recently passed an anti-corruption law that puts limits on official advertising in private media.
Representatives of COPAL and Panam Sports have criticized this legislation as an obstacle to promote the preparations of Peru in hosting the mega-sport event in the South American country.
Around 80 percent have heard about the Pan American Games, however there is ignorance about the Parapan Am Games, according to the survey.
The 18th Pan American Games will be held in Lima from July 26 to August 11 followed by the Parapan Am between August 23 and September 1.
The research shows that the most needed information, with a view to future communication campaigns, is that referring to the competition venues, the dates of the various events, and ticket prices.

Three-time Major Champion Golfer Wants to be in Tokyo 2020
Olympian and three-time major champion Padraig Harrington said he believes he can qualify for a second Olympics in Tokyo 2020, while also raving about the Paris 2024 course.
Harrington represented Ireland as golf returned to the Olympic Games for the first time in 112 years at the Rio 2016 Games. The veteran golf professional from Dublin finished the four round tournament at three-under-par, tied for 21st.
"To be an Olympic athlete and as a golfer, it’s certainly something you definitely want to do in your career," Harrington tells Around the Rings, prior to the Czech Masters, this week’s European Tour event in Prague.
"On top of that if you can win an Olympic gold medal that will top it all off. Especially when you come to smaller countries, like here in the Czech Republic, the Olympics is far bigger.
"As I travel the world, I usually get introduced as three-time major winner Padraig Harrington, but in some places, they say Olympic athlete and three-time major winner. For them, it gives much more kudos."
The Czech Masters in the penultimate qualifying event in determining the European team for the upcoming 42nd Ryder Cup. The biennial match play showdown between the U.S. and Europe will be played at Le Golf National, about an hour southwest of Paris, near Versailles, from September 28 to 30. It marks the first time that the showcase event is being contested in France. It will be held on the Albatros course, which will also be used for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

World Olympians Association Expands Work in Asia
The WOA has appointed a development officer for Asia to support the growth and expansion of national Olympians associationsin the regionin the lead up to Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022.
The announcement came at a meeting of Asian Olympians associations on the sidelines of the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta.
Singaporean Olympian Jovina Choo joins the organisation as the WOA’s first ever development officer and will also be responsible for helping raise the profile of the role Olympians play in society.
Choo competed in sailing at the Rio 2016 Olympics before joining the IOC in Lausanne on a 12-month internship last year.
In her new role, she will support the delivery of WOA’s six-month pilot project, initially working with five Asian Olympians associations including Malaysia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia and Philippines. The aim is to assist with their development and increase their influence and effectiveness.
The WOA hopes to make this position permanent in Asia and said it would roll-out the program to all five continents, which would involve a raft of other regional appointments.
