(ATR) An investigator for the IAAF is turning to Around the Rings readers in an effort to locate documents.
David Calvert-Smith alleges in an open letter that The Guardian newspaper in London has refused to cooperate with the federation’s investigation into wrongdoing by IAAF commercial director Papa Massata Diack, the son of IAAF president Lamine Diack.
Calvert-Smith has a long and distinguished career as a public prosecutor in the U.K.
"The most important matter for my investigation is of course the documents themselves rather than the identity of the person or persons who showed them to The Guardian," said Calvert-Smith. "Hence this request."

Papa Massata Diack has denied any wrongdoing. He resigned his IAAF marketing duties in December when allegations emerged against him.
Calvert-Smith explains further what he is seeking in the open letter he sent to Around the Rings:
The IAAF Ethics Commission has asked me to investigate the possibility of misconduct by Mr. Diack.
In order to conduct a proper investigation, it is of course essential that I have access to the documents which may have been shown to Mr. Gibson in order to asses their authenticity and to make such further enquiries as may then be necessary.
The Guardian has refused to assist my investigation on the grounds that to do so would risk a breach of its duty of confidentiality to its source or sources.
The most important matter for my investigation is of course the documents themselves rather than the identity of the person or persons who showed them to the Guardian. Hence this request.
Any person in a position to allow me sight of the documents seen by Mr Gibson is asked to contact me, whether directly or through an intermediary, in one of the following ways:
