(ATR) Budapest’s bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympics is receiving a shot in the arm.

A 31-member athletes commission, chaired by Olympic swimming champion Ágnes Kovács, has been set up by the Hungarian NOC to advise and promote Budapest’s bid.

The commission’s members account for about 25 percent of Hungary’s 168 Olympic gold medals, according to AP.

Not surprisingly, the panel will be making sure that the best interests of the athletes are represented in the bid.

Budapest faces some stiff competition for 2024 with Los Angeles, Paris and Rome the other bidders.

Rather than sending Around the Rings a standard press release to announce the athletes commission, Budapest sent a video with Kovács answering questions from ATR reporter Mark Bisson.
