(ATR) Pere Miro’s took on an expanded role at the IOC in the spring when he became a key member of Thomas Bach’s inner circle.

Miro is number 22 in the Around the Rings Golden 25 for 2016. Now in its 20th year, the survey ranks 25 individuals or events expected to have a major influence on the Olympics in the year ahead.

Miro, 58, spends time assisting the president and the director general in strengthening relations with the Olympic Movement as well as providing strategic counsel to both Bach and Christophe De Kepper.

He coordinates the subsidies given from the IOC to Olympic Movement stakeholders. Miro also keeps busy as director for both Olympic Solidarity and as head of the IOC’s NOC relations department.

Amid the IOC’s escalating dispute with Kuwait and the myriad other NOC autonomy issues that surface every year, Miro is the man charged with mediating solutions. With government interference in NOC affairs a recurring problem in world sport, this is no small task.
