(ATR) Global Sports Week Paris adds a new founding partner with adidas coming on board.

The iconic sports brand joins France's Ministry of Sport, French banking group BPCE and EGG Events in the top-tier category. EDF and Vivendi are associate partners.

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC), UN Women and World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI) are among those who will help to co-create the event as official ‘Proud Supporters.’

The second edition will again be heldunder the patronage of UNESCO and the high patronage of French President Emmanuel Macron.

The event will run from February 1-5, 2021 and will take place primarily online, with speakers linked live across studio settings in Paris and five future Olympic host cities – Beijing, Tokyo, Milan, Dakar and Los Angeles. Where local health conditions allow, physical events will also be organized with support from France’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Global Sports Week will also feature a first-of-its-kind virtual exhibition – the GSWMarketplace – comprising immersive, customizable and interactive booths, accessible for businesses and organizations of all types and sizes.

"We’re pleased to renew our support for Global Sports Week, which offers an important platform for exchange around the key issues linking sport, business and society," said IPC president Andrew Parsons in a statement.

"The IPC firmly believes that Change Starts with Sport and Global Sports Week, with its emphasis on multilateral solutions, will set the tone for a defining year for the Paralympic Movement."

GEES20 Goes Hybrid

The fifth Global Esports Executive Summit will take place November 29-30 at the Busan Esports Arena in Busan, South Korea.

The International Esports Federation, which is presenting the event, says plans have been made to allow delegates to participate and contribute both live at the venue, and online.

The keynote speakers are Philippe Gueisbuhler, General Director of GAISF (Global Association of International Sports Federations) and Byungho Kang, Esports Manager of K-League.

The session on Esports and Traditional Sports Convergence will cover topics such as bringing the sports and Esports communities together, building on common ground, and identifying and cultivating opportunities for collaboration and outreach.

Host City 2020

A global audience of 1,000 major event industry professionals is expected to attend the seventh edition of the Host City conference and exhibition on Dec. 8-9.

The annual international meeting of cities and sports, hosted by EventScotland and Glasgow Life, is virtual this year.

The theme is "The Big Restart: Recovery with a Purpose for the Digital Age" and the opening session will feature keynotes from IOC member and former WADA president Craig Reedie and Paris 2024 CEO Etienne Thobois among others.

Brian Lewis, the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee president, and Densign White, Chair, Sporting Equals tackle another dominating issue of 2020: the impact of the Black Lives Matter movement, while Sabrina Ibanez, President of the Association of Paralympic Sports Associations leads the panel on inclusion and diversity.

In addition to the content, the Host City 2020 digital platform enables what organizers call "all the other hallmarks of Host City – world class networking, and an exhibition of events, hosts and expert suppliers".

That appeals to organizations including the Global Esports Federation.

"As the Global Esports Federation ramps up efforts to launch our diverse global esports portfolio, including the #worldconnected series and GEFcon in December 2020, and the Global Esports Games 2021, Host City 2020 presents a unique opportunity for the Global Esports Federation to engage in networking, sharing of innovative ideas and mutual learning with other hosting cities and diverse industry partners within the major events sector," federation CEO Paul J. Foster tells Around the Rings.
