FrancsJeux: 'L'avenir du Mouvement Olympique Sera Feminin'

IOC member Nawal El Moutawakel speaks with FrancsJeux about the growing role of women in the Olympic Movement.

Le CIO l’a annoncé l’an passé en bombant le torse : les Jeux de Paris en 2024 seront marqués par la parité entre les hommes et les femmes pour le nombre d’épreuves et de médailles. Une première. Mais où en est l’égalité des sexes dans le mouvement olympique ? Les dirigeantes pèsent-elles du même poids que leurs homologues masculins ?

Au lendemain de la Journée internationale du sport féminin, célébrée dimanche 24 janvier, FrancsJeux a interrogé l’une des femmes les plus influentes de l’univers olympique. Nawal El Moutawakel, 58 ans, championne olympique sur 400 m haies aux Jeux de Los Angeles en 1984, est membre du CIO depuis 1998. Elle en a été vice-présidente entre 2012 et 2016. Elle siège aujourd’hui à la commission exécutive.

La Marocaine promène un regard avisé mais sans concession sur la place des femmes dans le mouvement sportif et ses institution. Elle reconnaît les progrès réalisés, mais reste consciente du chemin encore à parcourir.
