(ATR) The Foundation for Global Sports Development (GSD) held its biannual Playmakers Program at the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) training center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Thirty-one children participated in the four-day event along with seven adult mentors. The children are members of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Denver Metro.

The youth received a tour of the Ted Stevens Sports Services Center where the USOC has the latest technology in sports science that allows athletes to train, recover and eat in state-of-the-art facilities.

Around the Rings chief operating officer Marcel Tirado was on the scene in Colorado Springs as a guest speaker at the event. Tirado spoke to the participants about perseverance during difficult situations and how failure is sometimes necessary for future success.

Paralympian Candace Cable also spoke about her challenges in becoming a Paralympic athlete and kids tried playing wheelchair basketball and sitdown volleyball in sports demonstrations.
