DOSB Chooses City To Bid For 2024 Olympics -- Monday Memo

(ATR) The German Olympic Sports Confederation will choose a city to bid for the 2024 Olympics on Monday.

(ATR)On March 16, the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) will choose a city to bid for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games.

If Germany's choice of its Olympic candidate city is based on opinion polls, Hamburg will be chosen to bid for the 2024 Games.

A poll released by the DOSB shows 64 percent of residents surveyed support a potential Hamburg bid, while Berlin can count on the support of 55 percent of locals.

The DOSB is holding a session in Frankfurt and is expected to ratify their decision on March 21.

PyeongChang 2018 Coordination Commission

The fourth IOC coordination commission for the 2018 Winter Olympics will meet in PyeongChang, March17-19.

Members of the coordination commission, which is chaired by Gunilla Lindberg, include Ottavio Cinquanta, Prince Frederik of Denmark, Rene Fasel, Gian-Franco Kasper, Barry Maister, Adam Pengilly, Angela Ruggiero, Tsunekazu Takeda, Zaiqing Yu, Tatiana Dobrokhvalova, Edgar Grospiron, and Todd Nicholson.

Around the Rings Europeancorrespondent Brian Pinelli will be in PyeongChang to cover the coordination commission's visit.

SPORTELAmerica

The SPORTELAmerica Convention takes placeMarch 17-19 at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel inMiami, Florida.

The event will gather professionals sports media industry interested in acquiring more business in the Americas.

The International Equestrian Federation plans to launch a new North American league at the convention this week.

SPORTEL conventions are held twice a year, with the flagship SPORTELMonaco every October in Monaco and the spring convention held every March.The conventions are organized byMonaco Mediax, under the patronage of Prince Albert II of Monaco and the IOC.

World Bowling Opens New Office

World Bowling will open its new office in Lausanne on March 19.

Kevin Dornberger, president of World Bowling, says"We feel that now is the right time to join the Olympic Capital.

"Being part of the unique sports community in Lausanne will offer us opportunities to exchange experiences and gain knowledge from other federations."

The decision to move to Lausanne was announced last December in Abu Dhabi during the World Men's Championships.

World Women's Curling Championship

The 2015 World Women's Curling Championship are underway inSapporo, Hokkaido (Japan).

The championship ends on March 22.

Cricket World Cup

The 2015 Cricket World Cup continues this week.

Jointly hosted this year by Australia and New Zealand, the event has gathered 14 teams from around the world. Overall, teams will play 49 matches in 14 venues.

India are the defending champions, having won the tournament in 2011. Competition ends March 29.
