(ATR) IAAF president Sebastian Coe says Brisbane, Australia is fully capable of hosting the Olympics in 2028.

The athletics president visited the Gold Coast to meet with Oceania officials about reform proposals for track and field’s governing body and lauded the Australians’ ability to host major events.

"Anything in Australia is a credible thought because you have, in the past, proven that you not only deliver Games effectively, you deliver them extremely well," he said. "I don’t have any sleepless nights over the operational ability of Australians to deliver great sporting events."

Coe noted the country’s "bandwidth of experience" that will soon include the Commonwealth Games in 2018.

Gold Coast 2018 Finds Merchandise Supplier

Organizers of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) added merchandise provider Trofe Australia to its list of supporters on Monday.

The licensed and custom merchandiser will supply the Commonwealth Games with products ranging from pins, badges, key rings, wristbands, pendants and pet tags. Trofe previously provided more than 1,000 designs and 30 million units for the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

"We have developed merchandise for a number of high profile sporting events including the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and Cricket World Cup 2015, and the chance to provide a collectable memento for spectators, athletes and fans of GC2018 will be a lasting legacy for our business," said Trofe Australia managing director Robyn Oltvanyi.

President of GC2018 Peter Beattie says Trofe merchandise will help tell the story of the Commonwealth Games and help visitors remember their trip to the region.

"Renowned for creative and unique designs of the highest quality, there is no doubting the quality of their products, the brands, organizations and events they have worked with," he said. "Trofe Australia products have become synonymous with major events and it’s fitting we have them on board. "

GC2018 is scheduled to take place from April 4-15, 2018.
