Celebrations at EOC General Assembly

(ATR) The centenary of the Polish NOC, awards ceremony will be part of a gala in Warsaw later this week.

(ATR) IOC President Thomas Bach will deliver a welcoming speech on the opening day of the 48th annual European Olympic Committees (EOC) General Assembly in Warsaw on Friday.

Polish NOC President and host of the event, Andrzej Krasnicki, and EOC President Janez Kocijančič will open the two-day assembly of representatives from the 50 European National Olympic Committees (ENOCs).

The meeting will also feature a gala which will culminate months-long celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the Polish NOC.

But it will be business before pleasure as the delegates work through a busy agenda. The new EOC Articles of Association and a revision of the EYOF Charter must be approved. The Candidate Cities of the 2025 Winter and Summer European Youth Olympic Festivals will also be announced.

In addition, delegates will receive the final report detailing all the EOC events in 2019, highlighted by the 2nd European Games in Minsk. There will be reports on future Games, notably the 3rd European Games in Krakow & the Malopolska Region of Poland in 2023 and the Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022 Olympics. Also on the agenda are reports on Olympic Solidarity, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the EOC Commissions and the European Union.

The meeting in Warsaw will also celebrate some of Europe’s best athletes and sports administrators with the announcement of the winners of the 9th Piotr Nurowski Prize, the European Olympic Laurel Awards and the EOC Order of Merit.

The five finalists for the summer edition of the Piotr Nurowski prize are: Croatian swimmer Franko Grgić, Italian gymnast Giorgia Villa, Hungarian fencer Liza Pusztai, Estonian cyclist Madis Mihkels, and Ukrainian athlete Yaroslava Mahuchikh.

The gala celebrating the Polish NOC’s centenary and the Piotr Nurowski Prize award ceremony will take place on Saturday and will be live streamed on the EOC Channel

The EOC Executive Committee will hold its final meeting of the year on Thursday, a day ahead of the General Assembly.
