Lausanne, 8 October 2018 – The Anti-Doping Division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)
that was created for the PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games has issued an Order lifting the
provisional suspension imposed on the Russian bobsleigh athlete Nadezhda Sergeeva following her
positive out-of-competition test for Trimetazidine, a non-specified substance (Metabolic Modulator
prohibited under S4.5.5.4 of the 2018 WADA Prohibited List), on 18 February 2018.
During the course of the CAS ADD proceedings between Nadezhda Sergeeva and the International
Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF), the Athlete accepted both the adverse analytical finding
and a provisional suspension, which was then imposed on 24 February 2018.
Recently, the Athlete sought to lift her provisional suspension in accordance with IBSF Rule 7.9.3.1
which provides that a Provisional Suspension may be lifted if the athlete demonstrates that an ADRV
is likely to have involved a contaminated product. On 5 October 2018, the provisional suspension was
lifted by CAS on that basis, as it is undisputed between the parties to the procedure that the Athlete’s
ADRV likely resulted from a contaminated product.
The CAS procedure continues in order to determine the possible sanctions and a Final Award
concerning this point will be issued as soon as possible. It means that if any period of ineligibility
exceeding the period of provisional suspension already served by the Athlete is ultimately imposed
upon the Athlete in the Final Award, such additional period of ineligibility would be served
immediately upon issuance of the Final Award.
